Are you considering hiding a nanny cam in your home, but worried your new nanny will find it?
Sometimes it’s a good idea to tell your nanny about the camera so they don’t misstep. Other times it’s important to hide it if you suspect something isn’t right and you want to see their true colors.
But a hidden nanny cam doesn’t serve much purpose if your nanny spots it on day one, does it?
That’s why you need to be clever with where you hide it.

Hiding the cam inside a stuffed animal is a great way to make it blend in amongst your child’s toys.
Some cameras are even sold like this. But, you can always make your own by purchasing a stuffed animal and cutting a hole in its belly. Once you’ve removed the extra stuffing, place the camera inside and then sew back around it so it’s well disguised.
You can cut a whole in the back as well to upload footage. Just make sure the toy stays out of reach of the child so they don’t try to play with it.
Shelves are usually cluttered with items and other knickknacks, making them a great place for hiding a camera.
Just make sure you place it in a section that isn’t normally bare and keep it away from areas that are used frequently.
Does your kitchen feature glass cabinets? If so, you’ve got a great spot for your hidden camera.
Position the lens behind some plates and cups, but make sure to adjust it so you can still get a good overall view of the kitchen.
Hiding it behind china or nice dinnerware is another great option too, as your nanny is unlikely to ever touch those.
If you don’t have any fancy dinnerware to hide your cam behind, then another option is to turn your camera into a smoke detector clone.
There is nothing special you have to do with this, as most of the cameras already look like smoke detectors anyway! Just place it in a high, out of reach spot.
This way it looks like a legitimate spot for a smoke detector and there’s no chance of your nanny accidentally coming across it.
Are you concerned your nanny is harming your child, or just slacking on the job?
If they’re just slacking, then hiding it in plain sight might be your best option.
Once you tell them about the camera, they should be able to put two and two together and start stepping up their performance.
However, once they know it’s there they may avoid the room it’s in, so you’ll probably need to install multiple cameras.
Nannies can be very beneficial for your child, so it’s important to make sure you are investing in a reputable professional nanny.
And while using a camera may make you feel sneaky, sometimes it’s the only way to achieve peace of mind.
However, just make sure you are aware of the laws in your state about hidden cameras, as sometimes you need to inform the nanny beforehand.
